Beggar’s Velvet was a high school poetry club project and the first time I was published as a writer. Nevermind it was just a printed booklet only our friends and family bought, I was a writer.
Many years and a number of writing assignments later I’ve made the decision to write the book everyone’s been waiting for. Wishful thinking? Maybe. My story couldn’t be told before this, no one would believe me.
A few years ago I read the book, “Save the Cat”, and filled out a bunch of index cards to plan my plot. But I couldn’t decide on the place in time that I should start my story. Starting a memoir’s timeline at birth is not recommended….boring.
Another year went by and I filled up spiral notebooks with scribbled notes of character profiles, story arcs and yet never filled the blank page staring back at me on page one. Is this where you are now?
So I procrastinated and read another book on the craft, “Story Genius”, and now I’ve got a starting point for my story and a rough outline following the Three Act Story Structure. I’ll meet you back here next time to compare notes and explain in more detail what the Three Act Story Structure is all about. We’ll take a closer look and how it pulls the story together.
I invite you to join me and let’s write our stories together…one page at a time. Maybe you’re not a writer but here to provide moral support, for that I thank you. Are you ready to get started?
Do you know other inspiring writers? Invite them to join us too. The more the merrier.
