Episode 002 - Be Humble and Kind

I’m glad you joined me and I hope you’ll become a part of the community here on The Lone Zebra. In the near future I’ll be opening up a chat room where we can gather and share our stories, tips and tricks with each other on how you’ve learned to live with being a zebra.

In the meantime you’ll find all the links and information I share in the podcast featured here in the show notes on Substack. If you share the podcast with friends and family, thank you and make sure to use this link that includes all the episodes but also the show notes for their reference. If you haven’t already subscribed, make sure to do so and you won’t miss an episode…it will be delivered to your email address. Easy peasy, right?

Today’s Episode #002 - Be Humble and Kind

I share some tips I’ve learned along the way and I hope you can benefit from them. I invite you to subscribe and stay tuned to our online community on The Lone Zebra. Community is important in healing and provides support, encouragement and a feeling of connection and caring amongst others who can understand and empathize. No one can understand better than another zebra on what it’s like to have an invisible illness.

One of the lessons I’ve learned that helps me find joy in life is mindfulness and observing things I’d missed seeing day to day before in my hectic paced, stress filled world. Last year I spent the summer and fall learning how to create videos of things I’d observed in my garden, sight seeing or observing the animals. I was in awe like a young child discovering fall colors or snow for the first time. Fascinated by the world as though I’d never seen before and looking at things in nature as through the eyes of a 2 year old I found a peace and calmness, a natural way to lower my blood pressure and become grounded again. I ate better, slept better and had a better outlook even on the bad days.

Another caveat to doing these videos is that I learned a lot about video and sound editing as I discovered new software and created them. I enjoy the calmness and peace they bring to me even today as I watch them now and I hope you enjoy taking a few minutes to slow down and relax and enjoy them too! You deserve time to recharge, put your feet up and have a cuppa of your favorite beverage.

This week I share one I call, Autumn Symphony, that captures a little of the magic as the leaves begin to showcase their colors. Enjoy!

Another video that I did highlights the day we made and canned tomato sauce for our pantry. You can see how the Victorio Strainer works on our tomatoes on our sauce making day in my video, Swans and Sauce. I also visited a local bird sanctuary and enjoyed the beautiful weather and soaking up some sunshine.

Faith and Hope

Living for over six decades with these chronic issues that doctors seemed to know little or nothing about often left me feeling defeated and with little hope. I found my courage and my strength through my faith. I found these daily devotionals by Sara such encouraging words that I hope reach out to you too, wherever you are and whatever you’re going through.

There are many people out there struggling with chronic illnesses that can benefit by listening to some of the tips I share.
