How can we use herbs for healing? Join me while I explore the exciting world of essential oils for making safe cleaning products, personal care products and aromatherapy that replace the toxic chemicals that have been destroying our health. Herbs heal naturally and “Dr. Z” and “Mama Z” share a wealth of knowledge and recipes to help you get started.
Episode 010 - Greater Than Ourselves
I’ve been doing research into natural health when I was still in high school in Kennesaw, Georgia. This was before Dr. Z was born, but I’m giving away my age. Coincidence that Dr. Z and Mama Z live in Kennesaw now and are the “go to” on everything to do with essential oils. You’ll find a wealth of information on their website, Naturally Living Family, A Bible Health Ministry and check out the Guide to Getting Started with Essential Oils and Aromatherapy and recipes for natural cleaning products.
My favorite essential oil is hard to name, but one I never tire of is Ylang Ylang. I share some of the properties and studies that have been done on this particular essential oil. I grow lavender and enjoy making essential oil and hydrosol (a scented water that is a by product of steam distillation). Here’s a video I made when we did some rosemary essential oil. I also enjoy drying lavender for sachets and save the wands (stems) in bundles for starting a fire in our wood burning stove. The house smells heavenly whenever lavender is in it.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease as a Cause for Histamine Intolerance
Two of the causes for histamine intolerance are Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis and I discuss these debilitating diseases and the symptoms. Stress is a big reason for “flares” and that happen in between remission periods and at the most inconvenient times. Diet is another huge player in controlling the severity of the disease. Herbs
I enjoyed an afternoon in the garden with my kittens while we harvested some and share some culinary uses for some of the more common herbs. Thyme and oregano are two herbs that have antimicrobial, antiviral and antibacterial properties. I love growing peppermint to easy digestive upsets and lemon balm or Tulsi (Holy) basil are adaptogenic herbs that help to calm and increase heart rate variability (HRV). Another good herb for tea before bedtime is chamomile. I also have a recipe for face cream made with chamomile flowers. There are so many different uses for herbs, and they smell so good! I LOVE just “petting” my herbs to smell their essential oils right in the garden!
