Look What I Have For You!
Starting in September 2023 I’ll be offering a new feature to Beggar’s Velvet, an opportunity to see behind the scenes while I write. One week each month I’ll feature a new section of the book that I’m working on.
Other extras include but aren’t limited to: relaxing inspirational videos I made last year in my garden along with my animal friends, photographs from my garden scrapbook, (perfect for screensavers) and occasional updates from my studio (photos of my latest watercolor paintings and/or other craft projects). You never know what I’m up to. Each week will be something different for the extra bonus material.
Examples of the Extras
Here’s a sample of the videos I’ll be sharing. It’s the first one I made in my garden last year as I was learning to practice mindfulness and enjoying the moment, right now…not past, not future…now. Follow me as my kittens and I harvest the vegetables, pick the flowers and enjoy the sunshine!
Grab a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy the video with it’s relaxing music and a nice virtual visit with my kittens and I, as we stroll through the garden on another one of our adventures.
Heaven in MY Garden
Photographs for Screensavers for your personal use is another extra included in your email. I have tons of photos to share and I think you’ll like them. I’ve included one below to give you an idea.
Glad to Be Here on Substack
I think it’s really nice to have one place for everything. Well almost everything. I’m waiting for a video feature so my inspirational videos can join all my other creations here, all on one platform. Now that would be awesome, wouldn’t you agree?
Each week will have something different included that I hope you enjoy. It typically include one extra bonus item for that week, just for you. On occasion I may have something I can’t wait to share so don’t be surprised. I want a way to say thank you for your continued support, it means the world to me to know you’re supporting me. Writing can be a lonely job but having supporters keeps me going.
I wanted a way to say thank you by providing an opportunity to share more and let you into my creative space. You are special and I want share a little of myself with you and get to know you better too.
Beggar’s Velvet for Writers
Writer Tool Updates
This really nice person, in a Facebook women’s writer’s group, answered my question when I was trying to get Scrivener working in Linux. I’m so happy to have this fantastic tool to write with again. I paid for the program to run on my Windows machine but because of Windows never ending library loads and spyware or whatever they have upgraded me to, wasn’t working. Nothing was. My laptop crashed and I had to start over again. This time with a Linux operating system. Unfortunately that meant working without Scrivener, until now! Hallelujah!
I’ve provided links to the information you need to get a free option for writers on my Writer’s Resource page. This is a free open source program which requires Linux OS to use. Here’s the skinny on the Scrivener program, in case it’s new to you.
Description:
Scrivener is a word-processing program and outliner designed for authors. Scrivener provides a management system for documents, notes and metadata. This allows the user to organize notes, concepts, research and whole documents for easy access and reference (documents including rich text, images, PDF, audio, video, web pages, etc.). Scrivener offers templates for screenplays, fiction, and non-fiction manuscripts. After writing a text, the user may export it for final formatting to a standard word processor, screenwriting software, desktop publishing software, and others.
Features include a corkboard, the ability to rearrange files by dragging-and-dropping virtual index cards on the corkboard, an outliner, a split screen mode that enables users to edit several documents at once, a full-screen mode, the ability to export text into multiple document formats (including popular e-book formats like EPUB and Mobipocket for Kindle, and various markup languages), the ability to assign multiple keywords (and other metadata) to parts of a text and to sort the parts by keyword (such as characters, locations, themes, narrative lines, etc.), hyperlinks between parts of a text, and "snapshots" (the ability to save a copy of a particular document prior to any drastic changes).
Because of its breadth of interfaces and features, Scrivener has positioned itself not only as a word processor, but as THE project management tool for writers.
"Scrivener for Linux" is unsupported by Literature & Latte and no future versions are planned; if you need Scrivener functionality that is unavailable in the 1.9.0.1 Linux version, you are welcome to install the latest Scrivener via Wine or in a virtual machine.
"Version 1.7.2.4 is identical to the current Linux 1.7.2.3 version, but with the beta expiry removed. Version 1.9.0.1 also has no expiry."
"Note that we [Literature & Latte] currently have no capacity or plans to release another Linux version. As a gesture of good-will, we decided to make a concerted effort to provision 1.9.0.1 to the Linux community instead of just removing the trial expiry date on the current version and re-releasing."
Scrivener Tutorials
These tutorials are for Mac OS (but it applies to ANY version really for almost all functionality). I love the corkboard and so much more! I’m working my way through the tutorials to learn a whole lot of features that are new to me. Some of the more advance features I had trouble finding in this free version for Linux. However it has so many features that put it way above a regular word processor you won’t miss much. Who knows? It could be I haven’t figured it out yet but I’ve made so much progress on my writing, I’m thrilled.
There are a ton of short videos to teach you everything you’ll need to know to write your story and share it with the world.
These tutorials are done by the software developers for Scrivener to help you learn the program or brush up. I know I needed a refresher course. Check out my Writer’s Resource page for this link and other great tools for writers.
Don’t miss out on all the new extras coming to the Beggar’s Velvet community. I know you are behind me and giving me the positive feedback to keep me going. I want to thank you again for being here, it means a lot.
Take a moment and leave me a comment and let me know how I’m doing. I appreciate your feedback.
